As with all magickal symbolism, these correspondences are suggestions only. They are (generally) based on the planetary ruler(s) of each sign.
If you decide to wear a stone becasue it's associated with your Sun Sign, remember to do so only if you wish to bring that particular stone's influences into your life.
Many other books have listed various stones for each of the signs of the zodiac. There is little agreement as to the "correct" birthstones.
While this isn't an ancient magickal tradition, it's well known today.
